My name is Mieke Geuëns (BE, 1976) and I live in Mechelen.
I studied Fine Arts at LUCA School of Arts in Brussels, and I work both as a graphic designer and a painter. At the Academy of Mechelen I developed an interest in realism and classical painting techniques.
For several years now, I have been creating a series of oil paintings depicting compressed plastic waste. With these works, I aim to reveal the chaotic textures and vibrant colours of discarded plastics, inviting viewers to discover aesthetic value within environmental decay. This tension – between beauty and destruction, attraction and repulsion – forms the core of my artistic language.
